Student body gets to meet icon, Renee Powell

Our student body recently had the opportunity to meet distinguished alumna Renee Powell (Class of 1964).

She shared her journey from Canton, Ohio to world-traveled and renowned golfing professional, civic leader, and social change advocate. Her message to students was to face obstacles head-on, pursue their passions, and give back.

Renee was the second African-American woman to compete on the LPDA Tour, playing in 250+ worldwide golf events. She has been a guest commentator on both CBS and ABC. Renee is a member of more than 12 Halls of Fame. She is the LPGA/PGA Head Golf Professional at Clearview Golf Course, the course built by her father. Renee has used her skills to support many causes, she was part of a USO tour to Vietnam, has traveled to Africa to host golf clinics, launched Clearview HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), and has been pivotal in expanding golf to minorities, women, seniors, and military veterans.

Students were especially excited to meet Renee and hear her story due to the excitement of unveiling their new space, the Renee Powell Learning Commons, a state-of-the-technology center, digital conference center, and student lounge. It has been exciting to enjoy the new learning commons and see Renee's mural each day as a reminder of the great things Crusaders can do!
